National Summit on Disability Policy 2010:
Living, Learning & Earning
Dear NCD Friends:
I’m honored to be the new Chairman of the National Council on Disability. I’m also delighted to announce the National Summit theme: Living, Learning & Earning. The Summit will take place at the Renaissance Washington, DC Downtown Hotel, 999 9th Street, NW, Washington, DC, July 25–28, 2010. Because of space constraints, this is an invitation-only event.
The cross-cutting theme of Living, Learning & Earning is designed to launch a national dialogue on disability policies and programs in the 21st century. As we gather in Washington, DC to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act, NCD wants to begin substantive discussions about the future of disability policies and programs and promote extensive collaboration at all levels of government and amongst all stakeholders. We are pleased to announce that we have expanded the number of Summit participants and are in the process of extending those additional invitations. We are also looking at new and innovative ways to engage participants and the broader disability community prior to the Summit in order to inform the dialogue with a variety of perspectives. Be sure to check the Summit website regularly for these updates.
At the Summit, NCD will join with an expanded group of federal partners, Congress, and disability community stakeholders to:
- Identify emerging opportunities to enhance Living, Learning & Earning for people with disabilities;
- Establish new mechanisms and build upon existing ones in order to improve the coordination of disability policies, programs, and advocacy efforts; and
- Energize collaborative networks to guide future disability policy directions.
Finally, the Summit will include an additional half-day, post-Summit discussion session on July 28, during which NCD will reflect on the Summit’s proceedings.
We look forward to this national dialogue!
Sincerely,
Jonathan Young
