Comprehensive Strategic Plan for HHS System Wide Implementation of Section 508
Description of the Project: Under this contract, New Editions Consulting provided support to the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Section 508 Coordinator and Program Team. The Office on Disability (OD) office manages and overseas the DHHS-wide program to help make electronic and information systems accessible to employees and customers with disabilities.
New Editions Consulting’s responsibilities included providing DHHS employees and managers with Section 508 awareness and technical assistance. The New Editions Consulting information technology specialists provided one-on-one technical guidance on implementing the Section 508 requirements and technical standards.
For a year, the OD received contractual support from New Editions Consulting, Inc. to develop materials and for DHHS OPDIVs and OS to utilize in their Section 508 implementation. This included a guide for Implementation Planning, a template Implementation Plan, various forms and tools for determining Section 508 applicability and exception handling, and technical assistance regarding the Access Board “508” standards and their application to technologies being deployed throughout DHHS. New Editions also provided training to the Section 508 Program Team on the Policy and the above identified supporting technical assistance materials.
New Editions also provided support to the DHHS Section 508 Project in the creation and distribution of Section 508 educational and outreach documentation and resources.
