Department of Transportation

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is dedicated to promoting safe behaviors of older road users to include individuals age 65 and over who are drivers, passengers, pedestrians, motorcyclists, and bicyclists.  New Editions provides content management and outreach support to NHTSA for the Clearinghouse for Older Driver Road User Safety (ChORUS).

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) uses medical examiners (MEs) to conduct examinations and certify that the 6.1 million active interstate and intrastate commercial motor vehicle drivers meet the physical requirements for safety. The National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (National Registry) allows qualified medical providers to become certified to serve as MEs in support of these efforts. Currently, FMCSA has certified over 69,000 MEs.

New Editions assists in the development and operation of DOT's DRC. DRC ensures that DOT employees in any location can fully participate in all aspects of the Department’s work, programs and services. Our team, located on site at DOT, developed the systems and procedures for operation, establishing three workstations to demonstrate adaptive equipment. We also provide job needs assessments for accommodations and recommend technology acquisition for employees.

New Editions provides operational and management support to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) for their Vision Exemption Program (VEP) initiative. The Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21) provides the legislative umbrella for establishing and operating the VEP which provides exemptions for interstate drivers meeting the programs’ guidelines. Through this program, drivers are offered the opportunity to fully participate in their careers.
